We got on a Harold kick this month.
It started with the videos we rented below.
Again, I am thankful our library has such a great video collection.
The Scholastic video did have some bonos features that included a Kevin Henkes story. Because we had already read one other Kevin Henkes book this year (Chrsanthmum) we did get on a mini-Kevin Henkes kick...but I got bored with it and we basically quit.
I like Harold. He inspires me and my kids to think creatively and to imagine more. I think the stories are simple and good for new readers and I love the illustrations.
We also read The Carrot Seed, since Crockett Johnson, author/illustrator of Harold, also illustrated this. I think the boy in The Carrot Seed looks an awful bit like Harold.
It was neat that Tigger recognized the author of The Carrot Seed was Ruth Krauss, the same person who wrote The Little Bear Books we read this month. I am making a point of trying to read all the books of certain authors and illustrators so the kids can start to make connections between the works. I also want them to understand that authors and illustrators are real people, so we try to spend some time learning about them.
